The Economics of Commonly Owned Groundwater When User Demand Is Perfectly Inelastic

    Get PDF
This paper provides a theoretical analysis of the common-pool resource dilemma in extracting nonrenewable groundwater resources when water demand is perfectly inelastic. It complements the existing theory of groundwater use, which assumes away the possibility of demand perfect inelasticity. Under perfectly inelastic water demand, the common-pool resource dilemma is by-passed if groundwater users are equally productive in water use. If they are not, a new type of inefficiency can arise due to the lack of a rationing mechanism on the basis of productivity. Our analysis suggests that groundwater management research should pay more attention to water demand elasticity and productivity heterogeneity.common-pool resources, groundwater extraction, groundwater management, groundwater use, irrigation water demand, optimal control, pumping externality, water demand elasticity, Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

The Impact of Nonfarm Activities on Agricultural Productivity in Rural China

Although evidence abounds that the development of rural non-farm activities have increased rural household income and contributed to rural development, the underlying structure and mechanism of the linkage between agricultural productivity and non-farm activities is poorly understood. Using a unique panel dataset of Chinese villages, this article examines the mechanism by which non-farm activities influence agricultural productivity. I find that Chinese villages’ non-farm revenue has a significant positive effect on agricultural land productivity. Although non-farm activities do withdraw labor out of agriculture and therefore dampen land productivity, that negative effect is negligible in comparison with the land productivity improvement brought by nonfarm revenue-financed infrastructure capital investment.Rural non-farm activities, labor migration, agricultural productivity, infrastructure capital., Agricultural and Food Policy, Productivity Analysis, O13, Q18,

Objective Synoptic Weather Classification on Air Pollution during Winter Seasons in Hangzhou

    Get PDF
Using the 2015-2018 Hangzhou city PM2.5, PM10, SO2, CO, NO2 and O3 mass concentration data, ERA5 reanalysis data and ground observation data, through the PCT classification method, the objective analysis of the winter air pollution weather situation in Hangzhou was obtained. The results showed that the winter air quality concentration in Hangzhou continued to be high from 2015 to 2018, and the air pollution was the most significant. Through objective classification, it is concluded that the main weather conditions affecting the region in winter are divided into 6 types, namely high pressure control, high pressure bottom control equalizing field, L-shaped high pressure control, high pressure front control equalizing field, low pressure control, low pressure front control Equalizing field. Among them, when high pressure control, high pressure bottom control equalizing field, L high pressure control, low pressure control are affected by local sources, the impact of external sources has a greater impact on the air quality in Hangzhou, and air pollution is prone to occur; before low pressure When the pressure equalization field is controlled by the Ministry and the pressure equalization field is controlled by the high pressure front, the local wind and precipitation in Hangzhou are relatively high, which is not conducive to the accumulation of air pollutants. The probability of occurrence of air pollution is small, and air pollution is not easy to occur

China’s perspective on similar biotherapeutic products

    Get PDF
AbstractIn order to ensure most Chinese patients, particularly in the population with relatively low incomes, have access to safe, low cost, effective and quality-assured medicines, a number of “stand-alone” biological products, which have good quality, safety and efficacy have been marketed in China. Many countries and regions’ regulatory agencies are actively engaging in the development of bio-similar guidance and documents, which is being coordinated by WHO. As a major developing country of new drug development, China is now working hard to promote the process of new similar biotherapeutic products (SBPs) approval and also actively involved in developing and updating technical documents
